This building using an air based thermal mass system replaced six old manufacturing units in 2009. The new innovative £4.5 million building substantially funded by Daventry District Council comprises office space and a manufacturing facility, and is occupied by local business Hi-Force Ltd.

The new building has been built to high environmental standards.  Alongside the air based

thermal mass system the building has a wide range of complementary features such as rainwater harvesting, a large green sedum roof and reversible ground source heat pumps.

The air based thermal mass system provides stable heating, cooling and ventilation over two floors to condition the office accommodation.  The high thermal mass of the concrete slabs at ground floor level are also used to provide comfortable

conditions to parts of the manufacturing facility.

The flexible scheme has been designed to accommodate future changes of tenancy.  The ventilation system and controls strategy have been installed to enable the ‘switching on and off’ of the system, allowing it to work at a reduced capacity should areas of the building not be let in the future.  The fully automated building management system also allows adjustment of each zones temperature set point, providing control and a response to the anticipated varying internal heat loads from future tenants.
