The new Riverside building for Suffolk County Council & Waveney District Council enabled offices from six locations to be combined into one. This landmark building was opened in May 2015. The building features an Actimass air based thermal mass system, ground and air source heat pumps, pv solar and underfloor heating.

The 3,700m² building creates a bright and comfortable work environment, accessed by an impressive reception and main circulation area.

The building has a wide variety of room types using Actimass including large open plan offices, small meeting rooms, cafe diner, conference suits and training rooms.

Actimass thermally modelled the benefits of activating the structural thermal mass.

The building used a steel frame solution supporting pre-tensioned hollowcore concrete structural flooring.

From within the rooms occupants see a high standard exposed concrete ceiling with a traditional white paint finish. However, hidden inside the cores of the concrete ceiling, is a laberinth air path for the incoming ventilation air.

This enables the high thermal mass of the concrete floor slabs to be used for thermal storage. Incoming fresh air is warmed or cooled required as it passes through the cores delivering energy efficient comfort conditions.

The building has a diversity of room types owing to its design brief to house a wide variety of multi-services including conferences, training, meeting rooms, cafe and administration.
